Location of the Project: 1. Fifty seven districts out of sixty four. Excluding districts are Rangpur, Kurigram, Lalmonirhat, Gaibanda, Nilphamari, Panchagarh and Natore.
2. 442 upazila of 57 districts. Estimated cost of the project : 9999.41 lakh. (GOB)
Beneficiary: a) Young people who can read and write Bangla. b) Age 18-35 years. c) Permanent resident of concerned upazila.
Objectives of the project:
1. To transform unemployed youth into skilled & semi-skilled human resource through life skills/skill development training according to local felt needs.
2. To reduce poverty & unemployment by involving trained youth in self-employment activities.
3. To make trained youth self-reliant through individual/group enterprise.
4. To promote participation of young people in the nation - building activities.
Background of the project:
Youth is one third of the total population in Bangladesh. As per existing national youth policy the age group of 18-35 years is considered to be youth. Youth are valuable resource for our country and they are playing pivotal role in the national development process. The world of 21st century is really the century of youth community. Because it's a world of challenge, opportunity and probability. It is a great challenge for the youth of present rapid changing globalization. Therefore, the youth need skill, knowledge, competitive attitude to face the challenging situation. With this view the project has the provision to equip the youth by various skill development training.
In Bangladesh context, most of the unemployed youths are poverty stricken and live in rural areas. The specific target of this project is to arrange training programme for those youths according to their felt needs at nearest school, college, clubs premises without bringing them to the districts or upazila. So that they can be transformed into skilled human resources. As a result unemployed youths will be self reliant through taking small scale individual income generating project. Not only that youth will have ample scope to engage themselves in the self-employment activities at grass-root level. They can bring about revolutionary change in the local economy. It will be more effective to address youth problems as well as accelerate national development activities.
Impact of the project:
During the project period a total number of 9,72,400 youths will be trained and out of them6,80,680 will be engaged in the self-employment activities. They will find avenue to earn money by utilizing gained knowledge in the productive activities. They will be self-reliant and their social Simultaneously, they will contribute to enhance the national economy through increasing the productivity. This will accelerate the positive change as well as help to reduce poverty in the society. Moreover, it will be helpful to create employment and self-employment opportunity for rural youths.
Training & Self-employment:
The proposed project has the provision to impart training to the 440 unemployed youths every year in each upazila. The duration of training courses will be 7/14/21 days and the number of participants of each batch will be 40. The duplication of training will be avoided. Training courses will be conducted by the local Resource Persons. They will be given Tk. 500/- as honorarium for each session and everyday 4 sessions will be conducted. Training courses will be organized at clubs premises, school, college, Union Parishad etc. according to needs. The trained youths will be provided loan for undertaking self-employment projects. Through the proposed project a total number of 9,72,400 young women and men will be trained all over Bangladesh. Of them at least 6,80,680 youths will be brought under self-employment programmes which directly help to reduce the poverty in rural Bangladesh. By this project, the young people will not only be self-employed but the pace of economic development will accelerate in project areas.
